Tamer Aslan ANADOLU / ANATOLIA Online Juried Solo Exhibition

Within the scope of its solo exhibition program, the Marmara University Traditional Handicrafts and Design Application and Research Center (GESTUAM) is presenting the online juried solo exhibition ANADOLU / ANATOLIA: Cultural Reproductions in Leather and Glass by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamer Aslan, a faculty member of the Department of Ceramics and Glass at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Fine Arts. The exhibition brings the artist’s works to the audience, offering new interpretations of cultural heritage through the mediums of leather and glass.

The combination of leather and glass serves as an aesthetic language and a medium of cultural interpretation. When the texture of leather meets the light and colors of glass, historical motifs acquire a modern visual expression. This process both preserves traditional aesthetics and contributes to contemporary design and artistic practice. In this regard, every new work adds value to cultural heritage. Anatolia, which has hosted numerous civilizations, holds an important place among the world’s cultural assets with the rich cultural and visual heritage it has carried into the present and future. In this context, I find it meaningful to present reinterpretations of Anatolian civilizations—created through different materials such as metal and wood, and especially leather (relief) and glass (Tiffany stained glass)—as “cultural reproductions” that serve as messages of cultural awareness for today and for the generations to come.
